Former MLB Pitcher Greg Reynolds Gets $2.3 Million Settlement After Breaking Hand Punching Naked Home Invaders On LSD Posted by: SportSmasher , March 23, 2018 NYPost A former top pitching prospect for the Rockies, whose fastball never befuddled batters the same way after he punched a drugged-up intruder, has been awarded $2.3 million by a jury in California. Greg Reynolds, who was picked second overall by Colorado in the 2006 MLB Draft, was awarded the money by a San Mateo County jury after it found Dominic Pintarelli and Connor Pope liable in the January 2016 incident that left the right-handed hurler with broken knuckles in his pitching hand, according to The Mercury News. Reynolds’ attorney, Niall McCarthy, said Reynolds approached Pintarelli, then 19, as Pintarelli was roaming a gated community in Half Moon Bay while naked and high on LSD. Pintarelli then attacked Reynolds, punching him several times before trying to break into Reynolds’ home. The pitcher then went outside to confront Pintarelli and punched him, breaking bones in his money-making appendage. “I only hit him one time, and it was bad enough to where I knew immediately it was broken,” Reynolds told the newspaper. “It all happened so quickly, you don’t have time to think about it. We were definitely in fear for our lives.” Reynolds, 32, said the injury took away his ability to make his fastball move within the strike zone. He claimed during his civil trial that Pope, who had hosted Pinatarelli at the time and also took hallucinogenic drugs, and Pintarelli were liable for his injury and seeing his big-league dreams vanish. “The biggest problem was that I broke my index finger knuckle, the most important finger for throwing the ball,” Reynolds said. “It affected all my pitches.” Reynolds pitched with the Rockies in 2008 and 2011 and was in the minors in between. He was briefly with the Reds in 2013 and was last signed by the Padres on a minor league contract in February 2016, but the 6-foot-7 California native was cut by the team three months later. Greg Reynolds was once one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, the six-foot-seven righty was the second overall pick out of Stanford University by the Colorado Rockies in the 2006 MLB Draft, but his career was totally derailed by a bizarre incident involving two drugged up home invaders. On January 6th, 2015 Greg Reynolds heard a commotion outside of his home in a gated community in Half Moon Bay, and with his family inside his residence he went to investigate. Reynolds ran into his neighbor, a man named Connor Pope, and a guest at Pope’s Home named Dominic Pintarelli both of who were tripping on LSD. Pintarelli attacked Reynolds, and tried to run inside his house, at which point Reynolds punched Pintarelli in order to protect his family. Greg Reynolds’ career was never the same after breaking his hand in the incident, because the broken knuckle suffered in the index finger of his pitching hand no longer allowed him to create movement, which effectively ended his promising career. Reynolds sued his attackers, and the jury found Connor Pope liable for hosting a party where illegal drugs were used and Dominic Pintarelli liable for attacking Reynolds, for ending Reynolds big league career and costing him and his family millions of dollars the jury awarded Reynolds $2.3 million dollars. So while Greg Reynolds never got to realize his major league dreams or sign that gigantic free agent contract, at least he received some compensation, from the drug users that cost him his promising career.
