ESPNThe New England Patriots are signing free-agent wide receiver Eric Decker today to a one-year deal, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday. The Patriots had brought Decker in for a workout Wednesday, a source told ESPN. Decker, 31, is entering his ninth NFL season, having caught 54 passes for 563 yards and one touchdown with the Tennessee Titans last season.
I love this signing for the New England Patriots, who brought in Jordan Matthews to be a sure handed wide receiver that can consistently move the chains for Tom Brady, but the Patriots were forced to release Matthews after he suffered a significant hamstring injury in training camp. The wide receiver depth chart in New England was already thin, especially while Julian Edelman is suspended for the first four games of the season due to testing positive for PEDs, so the Patriots signed veteran Eric Decker to fill the void. This is the prefect situation for Eric Decker, who has been an extremely productive player over his career with the Broncos, Jets and Titans, while Decker does not have deed speed he is big bodied and sure handed plus he runs excellent routes. The Patriots need a receiver who Tom Brady can trust in the passing game, and Eric Decker should become that player in a hurry, I think this smart signing could pay big dividends for the Patriots.
For you fantasy football owners, especially those in PPR leagues, I expect Eric Decker to catch a lot of balls in New England this season.
