All summer long there was talk that Isaiah Thomas was going to sign with the Orlando Magic, and I kept thinking, I do not want to see a former MVP candidate trying to rebuild his career after a serious injury while putting up shots in meaningless minutes for a rebuilding Orlando Magic roster. While Isaiah Thomas would have played a lot of minutes in Orlando, as the Magic gave no point guard and an over abundance of young big men, I would rather see Isaiah Thomas coming off the bench and making an impact on the second unit of a good team. That’s exactly what happened, and I absolutely love this signing, as Isaiah Thomas signed a one year deal with the Denver Nuggets. A team that is looking to go from fringe playoff team to Western Conference contender, the Nuggets have a very interesting roster with a lot of positional flexibility, and strong depth across the board. Isaiah Thomas will be the backup point guard behind Jamaal Murray, but he will be a microwave style scorer off the bench, and he can also play alongside Murray who is able to play off the ball. Coming off a serious hip injury, Isaiah Thomas had some flashes for the Lakers late last season which reminded you of his MVP candidate campaign the season before, and if used in the right spots with correct minutes management in Denver he could be very effective for a good team this season.
