Iowa Teacher Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander Arrested For Sex With Student

KTTC A teacher at Howard-Winneshiek Community Schools in Cresco has been charged with a sex crime involving a student. Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander, 29, taught at Charles City Middle School for a year before taking the job in Cresco this school year. The Decorah woman is facing a charge of Sexual Exploitation by a Counselor or School Employee for allegedly engaging in sexual contact with an 18-year-old student. Investigators say it happened on “numerous occasions” during the 2018 school year but Sheriff Mike Minor said the encounters did not happen on school property. Howard-Winnesheik Superintendent Ted Ihns said Ranweiler-Oblander has been put on administrative leave and has been banned from the school grounds. “While we cannot share any further information at this time due to privacy concerns, we will continue to update our school community as we are able in the coming days,” said Ihns. Bond for Ranweiler-Oblander has been set at $5,000 in cash. A judge has issued a no-contact order between the teacher and the student.

Another day, another teacher gets arrested for having sex with a student, this time the offender is 29-year-old Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander from Iowa. Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander had sex with an eighteen-year-old male student numerous times, and while the teenage “victim” was legally an adult, it is still illegal for a teacher or school employee to have sex with a student (even if the student is eighteen or older). While the charges are lesser if the student is an adult as opposed to a minor, Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander was still charged with Sexual Exploitation by a Counselor or School Employee, and bond was set at $5,000 cash. As the student is an adult, this is a victimless crime, and this teenage boy got to live out every teenage boy’s fantasy of getting to have sex with their teacher. Obviously, it has to be illegal for a teacher to engage in a sexual relationship with a student, and while Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander should never be allowed to enter a school again the punishment should be less if the “victim” was an adult.
