The Phoenix Suns started the 2017-2018 season (0-3), losing by 48 points to the Blazers then by two points to the Lakers then by 32 points to the Clippers, star point guard Eric Bledsoe demanded a trade on Twitter and shortly afterwards the team fired head coach Earl Watson. So, you can say the season is off to a pretty good start for the Phoenix Suns, who were not supposed to be a good team this year anyway but have been less competitive than anyone ever imagined. The Suns are rebuilding around several talented young players (Devin Booker, Marquese Chriss, Dragan Bender, Josh Jackson), but there are several veterans on the roster (Eric Bledsoe, Tyson Chandler, Jared Dudley) who want to part of the rebuild and who could help a playoff contender right now. Expect some roster turnover in Phoenix in the coming weeks, the locker room is not a good place right now, and many around the league expect the Suns to jettison some veterans to make room for the youth.
NOTE: This clears the way for one of my favorite rumored trades, Eric Bledsoe to the Denver Nuggets, a very talented team that can make some noise in the Western Conference but have a huge hole at point guard. The Suns do not have a lot of leverage as Bledsoe made his trade demand public, and other teams around the league think that the Suns must move Bledsoe now, a trade including 21-year-old point guard Emmanuel Mudiay who desperately needs a change of scenery and fire the Suns youth movement makes sense for both teams.
