HookEm Former Texas running back D’Onta Forman was taken into custody about 3 a.m. Sunday and charged with marijuana possession of two ounces or less and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to jail records. The University of Texas police department was the arresting agency, records show. The drug charge carries a $1,000 bond. The bond for unlawlful carrying of a weapon is $3,500. He was released sometime around noon Sunday. UTPD spokeswoman Cindy Posey issued a statement to the American-Statesman that said UTPD police first responded to a call at 12:24 a.m. Sunday. The officers “responded to a report of the smell of marijuana coming from three occupied vehicles near the southwest side of San Jacinto residence hall on campus,” the statement read. “Officers arrived on the scene discovered marijuana in each vehicle and also discovered a firearm in one of them. “The owner of the firearm, D’Onta Foreman, was arrested for Unlawful Carrying of Weapons and Possession of Marijuana and booked into Travis County Jail. Six other male suspects were cited and released for Possession of Marijuana. “None of them are UT students and they are not believed to have UT affiliations.”
One of my favorite running backs in the 2017 NFL Draft was former University of Texas star D’Onta Foreman, a powerful runner who rushed for over 2,000 yards for the Longhorns last season, he was selected by the Houston Texans in the third round of the draft. I thought D’Onta Foreman would make an instant impact as a rookie as the Texans short yardage back, but those familiar with Foreman told me that being drafted by a Texas team is the worst thing that could have happened to him, because Foreman hung out with some bad people and it was only a matter of time before they got him in trouble. My sources were right, quicker than I expected they would be, as D’Onta Foreman was arrested this weekend, after police found him and several of his friends smoking weed in a vehicle outside a residence hall on the University of Texas campus. Cops smelled marijuana coming from the vehicles, and upon searching the seven people in multiple vehicles, they discovered weed and also that Foreman was in possession of an unlicensed firearm. It might have been better for his career if D’Onta Foreman was drafted by the Green Bay Packers or Buffalo Bills, far away from the University of Texas and his former crew, D’Onta Foreman better get some new friends fast if he wants to salvage his promising NFL career.

UPDATE: Foreman’s lawyer Sam Bassett said in a statement: “We are confident this matter will be resolved justly once the state of Texas applies the applicable law to the facts.” Foreman had apparently recently purchased the gun legally, it was secured properly in his vehicle, and he made officers aware that there was a legal gun inside the vehicle at the time of his arrest. Those with knowledge of the situation expect the gun charges to be dropped.
