He goes, ‘Mister, I’m not messing with you. There’s a body on your trunk.’ So I got out. We walked around and sure enough, there he was — still hanging on! Still unconscious, just lying there,” stunned driver Carl Webb told Fox 6. Webb and his wife, Hazel, were returning home from a barbecue festival in Memphis on the evening of May 18 when the cop alerted them to the surprise stowaway. They didn’t notice the proverbial third wheel because it was dark out, Webb told the station. The hitchhiker’s feat is even more incredible because the trunk is only 14 inches wide, he noted. “I have no explanation, other than that little lip right there saved his life,” he told the news station. Once the cop woke him, the tipsy traveler started stumbling into traffic. The cop grabbed him and hauled him off in his cruiser — safely inside this time — but it’s unclear if he’ll face any charges, Fox 6 reports.

Imagine waking up with this hangover, realizing that you got so wasted that you passed out on the trunk of a car in the parking lot, and then finding out that you somehow remained passed out on the trunk of the car as a couple drove 14 miles on the highway at a high rate of speed somehow not falling off to your death. If there has ever been a sign that you need to take a long look in the mirror, and think about making some life changes, this near death experience would be tough to top. If this guy fell off the trunk of the car, he would have immediately been run over by the vehicle behind the car, and his chances of survival are almost none. Dying while passed out is a rough way to go, but at least you would not even know what was happening, until you bounced off the pavement and it was too late.
