The Buffalo Bills were down at halftime to the Los Angeles Chargers 28-6, and things looked bleak, that’s when a bizarre situation unfolded with veteran cornerback Vontae Davis. According to reports, Vontae Davis changed into street clothes during halftime, then informed the team that he had decided to retire. Davis released the above statement, in which he blamed playing through nagging injuries, and stated that he realized during the first half that he should not be on the field anymore. This decision obviously shocked Vontae Davis’ coaches and teammates and you have to wonder, if the Bills were headed towards 2-0 and not 0-2 with two blowout losses, would Davis still have elected to retire at halftime. I am surprised that Davis did not just pull himself from the game, then force a trade to a team like the Kansas City Chiefs, who are scoring a ton of points but have an absolutely atrocious secondary and desperately need a veteran presence at cornerback. That being said, if you were a Two Time Pro Bowl nine year veteran, would you want to be risking injury every week suiting up for the potentially winless Buffalo Bills?
P.S. The Bills were frisky in the second half and ended up losing 31-20. So they rallied and almost covered as +7.5 home dogs. The Bills won the second half without you Vontae Davis!
