ESPN Former Ohio State cornerback Gareon Conley has been accused by a woman of raping her in a Cleveland hotel earlier this month, according to Cleveland police. Conley has not been arrested, nor have any charges been filed against him as Cleveland police investigate the allegations. Police spokeswoman Jennifer Ciaccia said investigators are making arrangements to interview Conley. Attorney Kevin Spellacy, without naming his client, earlier Tuesday denied the allegations to WOIO-TV in Cleveland, calling them “ludicrous and ridiculous.” Sources close to Conley tell ESPN’s Adam Schefter that they have statements from three witnesses — two male, one female — who say Conley was never alone with the accuser and that he did nothing wrong. Two of the witnesses did not know Conley, according to the sources, who added that the information has been shared with NFL teams. According to a police report obtained by ESPN, the alleged incident occurred April 9. A 23-year-old woman told police she met Conley in the elevator of the downtown hotel and he brought her back to his hotel room. She alleges that after she declined an offer of group sex with Conley and two friends, Conley had sex with her then kicked her out of the room. The woman reported the incident and then went to a local hospital, where a rape kit was administered. But the woman also refused to speak to police, according to the report. According to the police report, Conley’s friends said nothing happened between Conley and his accuser and that she was angry he asked her to leave. Conley is No. 18 on Mel Kiper Jr.’s final Big Board for the NFL draft, which begins Thursday. Conley, 21, had been expected to be taken in the first round.
Shocking news just days before the NFL Draft, former Ohio State University cornerback Gareon Conley has been accused of raping a woman at a Cleveland hotel on April 9th, allegations which Conley strongly denies and which his lawyer has called “ludicrous and ridiculous”.
There are two sides to the story, the woman says that she met Gareon Conley and his friends in the elevator of a Cleveland hotel, and she accompanied them back to their room. The woman declined an offer to have group sex with Conley and his friends, but had sex with Conley, who kicked her out of the room afterwards. The woman then went to a local hospital and reported the rape, and a rape kit was administered, but the woman refused to speak with police. A witness corroborates her story.
Gareon Conley and his friends state that he was never alone with the woman, and she became upset when Conley kicked her out of the hotel room, and threatened to report that she was raped in a possible extortion attempt. Two witness corroborate this story.
There a few things that could have happened here, Gareon Conley could have just kicked the woman out of the hotel room like he and his friends said, at which point she accused him of rape to get a piece of his NFL money. Gareon Conley could have had consensual sex with the woman, then kicked her out of his room, at which point the woman accused him of rape because she was insulted by Conley’s actions and filled with regret. Finally, Conley could be a criminal, who actually rapes women in which case he needs to b locked up.
No matter what happened in that hotel room, it’s going to affect Gareon Conley’s draft status, I had him slotted to be selected fourteenth by the Philadelphia Eagles in my mock draft but there is now a chance Conley does not get drafted at all.
