The Nuggets have been dangling Wilson Chandler and his expiring $12.8 million contract, along with several other players (rumored to be including Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur), and they found a taker for Wilson Chandler. The Nuggets traded Wilson Chandler to the Philadelphia 76ers, who can absorb Chandler into their cap space, and the Nuggets are sending along a second round pick for taking Chandler’s contract off their hands. The Nuggets needed to shed salary, they just signed Nicola Jokic and Will Barton to new long term deals, and the first player to be jettisoned is Chandler.
There is no doubt Wilson Chandler can help the 76ers, he is a versatile veteran player, and he can impact the game in a variety of ways if his minutes are limited. This should not be a problem in Philly, where Chandler can provide depth, and where he should be a useful piece in the second unit. Chandler will not hurt the 76ers long term, he is in the final year of his deal, and if he is not included in a future deal he will come off the books next summer clearing cap space.
Of course, Wilson Chandler’s expiring contract could be a nice sweetener either now or at the trade deadline in a deal for another star, and Brett Brown confirmed the 76ers are star chasing. Kawhi?
