First LeBron James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, which is still hard to believe actually happened, and any thought that the Lakers were going to build around LeBron and their young talent went out the window pretty quickly when the Lakers quickly began signing veteran players. The Lakers quickly signed Lance Stephenson who has a long personal history with guarding (and annoying) LeBron, then they signed center JaVale McGee, then brought back Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Now the Lakers have brought in veteran point guard Rajon Rondo, and with three players who can be considered (how should I put this) mercurial in JaVale, Lance and Rondo being added to Lakers locker room, you had better believe the Lakers are going to be wildly entertaining this season. All of these players are excellent defenders in their own way, and as they all signed one year deals, it does not hurt the Lakers long term flexibility to chase stars down the road. The question is, who is the next person to be added to LeBron’s new version of the Showtime Lakers? Will the Lakers now trade much of their young talent to the San Antonio Spurs for Kawhi Leonard? Will the Lakers sign DeMarcus Cousins, who is also a mercurial player, and would seem to fit into this crazy locker room they are building? Stay tuned. More to come from LaLa Land.
The Lakers also renounced the rights to restricted free agent Julius Randle, making him an unrestricted free agent, in a somewhat surprising move because Randle is a talented young big man who played very well after the All Star break last season. Things are happening in Los Angeles, wild and crazy things, stay tuned:
