TMZRichie Incognito was involved in an altercation with another man at an upscale Florida gym — with the alleged victim claiming Incognito threw a dumbbell at him … and cops were called. Multiple sources tell TMZ Sports .. the 4-time Pro Bowl lineman was working out early Wednesday morning when he got into it with another guy who was working out. We spoke with the alleged victim who tells us Incognito first threw a tennis ball at him for no reason — before grabbing a dumbbell and heaving that as well. The alleged victim says Incognito was rambling about the government and screaming at the man to “get off my f*cking playground.” Law enforcement confirms cops were called to the gym and met with Incognito. Multiple gym sources say Incognito was taken away by police — but cops won’t say if he was formally arrested. We’ve attempted to contact Incognito for comment — but so far, no luck. The 34-year-old has had a turbulent year — back in February, his old Miami Dolphins teammate, Jonathan Martin, was arrested after posting a gun threat directed at Incognito and others. Incognito then suddenly announced his retirement from the NFL while still under contract with the Buffalo Bills. Just this week, the Bills essentially granted him his release so Incognito could resume his NFL career with another team. On Sunday, Incognito was spotted at a Florida bar partying with several people and buying shots of patrons.
UPDATE: Law enforcement tells us Incognito was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold to be evaluated. It’s essentially the equivalent of a 5150 in California. It’s technically not an arrest — but a forced mental evaluation. It’s not the first time Incognito has been placed on an involuntary psych hold — the same thing happened a few years ago in the wake of the Jonathan Martin bullying scandal.
Four time Pro Bowl offensive guard Richie Incognito retired after the 2017 season, but he recently had second thoughts on that decision, and was recently rumored to be working towards a comeback. That comeback has already been met with controversy, because while Incognito was working out at a Florida gym, Incognito has the police called on him after allegedly throwing a dumbbell at another man. The man was apparently working out near Incognito, and Incognito was reportedly muttering to himself, when he suddenly threw a tennis ball and then a dumbbell at the man. Police were called, and Incognito was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold, he will be evaluated but it’s important to note Incognito was not arrested. Incognito is known to be a hothead both on and off the field, if he likes you he is fiercely loyal and a great teammate, but if he does not like you he has a short fuse and a violent temper. As anyone who has ever lifted weights knows, certain people do things in weight rooms that can really piss you off, and there is a chance this other man broke weight room etiquette which enraged Incognito. A hothead like Incognito could react by throwing a dumbbell in the man’s general direction, not in an attempt to injure the other man, but to let the other man know that he was breaking the unspoken gym rules and pissing Incognito off. However, there is a chance that Incognito really had some sort of breakdown in the gym, which is causing him to be evaluated. Either way, this report is not good for Incognito, and will make NFL teams think twice before signing the talented and controversial interior lineman on his comeback trail.
