ESPNThe Cleveland Browns are trading two draft picks to the Miami Dolphins for wide receiver Jarvis Landry, sources tell ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Browns are also working on a new contract for Landry, and a deal is likely to eventually get done, a source told Schefter. Neither one of the draft picks would be a first- or second-rounder, sources tell Schefter. It will be two picks between Rounds 3 and 7.
As soon as the Dolphins franchised Jarvis Landry, there were rumors that they would be trading him, which was surprising to me because he is clearly their best wide receiver. Today, the Dolphins traded Landry to the Browns for two draft picks, neither of which are first or second rounders. If I was running the Dolphins, I would have rather traded either DeVante Parker or Kenny Stills, instead of shipping out one of the most reliable possession wide receivers in the NFL. If I’m the Browns with the most cap room in football, this trade is a no brainer, if the Browns hit the draft and free agency correctly they could be scary on offense for the first time in a decade. If the Browns acquire a quarterback in free agency or the draft, and draft Saquon Barkley, who can set the league in fire behind an already strong offensive line? Look out. If Josh Gordon can stay out of the electric chair, with Jarvis Landry and Corey Coleman in the passing game, any quarterback should be able to succeed. I know the winner of the offseason rarely succeeds during the season, but with the first and fourth pick on the 2018 NFL Draft and all the cap room in the world, keep an eye on Cleveland.
NOTE: Jarvis Landry, be careful what you wish for, goodbye beaches and nightlife of Miami. Hello the shores of Lake Erie.
