ESPN Cincinnati Bengals quarterback AJ McCarron got his wish. He will be an unrestricted free agent on March 14 after an arbiter ruled Thursday in favor of the backup quarterback in his grievance against the Bengals. “It’s just a blessing,” he told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I was going to be blessed either way because you’re still in the league, you’re still being able to play the game for a living, but it’s just awesome just to be free now and to hopefully get that opportunity and be able to compete somewhere. That’s all I’ve ever wanted. I’m just super excited. Just really excited that I get that opportunity now and I just can’t wait to just showcase what I can do and show a team that I can lead a team and win ballgames.”
The NFL offseason quarterback pool just got a little deeper, as AJ McCarron won a grievance against the Cincinnati Bengals, and will become an unrestricted free agent. If your team needs a quarterback before the 2018 season, you are in luck, because there will be many quarterbacks available. The free agent market will consist of the grand prize, Kirk Cousins, who is set to become the highest paid player in NFL history. AJ McCarron will be the consultation prize, he has a lot of talent and has been buried on the bench for years behind Andy Dalton, he was nearly traded to the Cleveland Browns at the deadline which the Browns of course botched. All three Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks Case Keenum, Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater are available. If you need a veteran Josh McCown is available. If Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles demands to start, and his agent tries to force a trade when Carson Wentz is healthy, Foles could become available.
In the draft, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson and many others are available.
We already know the Kansas City Chiefs (Patrick Mahomes) and Washington Redskins (Alex Smith) will have new starting quarterbacks next season.
The Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, Denver Broncos, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars could all potentially have new starting quarterbacks next season.
Get ready. The 2018 quarterback carousel is going to be wild.
