After trading for Jimmy Garoppolo during the 2017 season and watching him lead the 49ers to seven consecutive wins, you knew the 49ers were going to pay Garoppolo this offseason and that they would not let him walk out the door, however Garoppolo is now the highest paid player in NFL history. You read that right. The 49ers gave Garoppolo a five year contract worth $137.5 million dollars, the largest deal in NFL history on an annual basis, which is crazy for a guy with nine career starts. Jimmy Garoppolo looked like a franchise quarterback in seven starts for the 49ers last season, and now he is getting paid like a franchise quarterback, so hopefully that small sample size was not a fluke and Garoppolo can live up to this massive contract. So for those of you keeping score, Tom Brady is not the highest paid player in the NFL, Aaron Rodgers is not the highest paid player in the NFL. It’s Jimmy G.
P.S. Since Jimmy G was on the roster for eight games, the Patriots also had to pay him $107,000 for his playoff share.
