After the Denver Nuggets beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 127-124 on a Gary Harris buzzer beating three pointer, and after the game, a Nuggets fan rushed the court and got in Russell Westbrook’s face. Westbrook responded the way that anyone would respond when a stranger is yelling in their face, with a light shove, which caused NBA Twitter to collectively lose its mind. The amount of Tweets and emails that we received (@SportSmasher) after Westbrook gave this fan a light shove in the chest was insane, and while Westbrook will probably get disciplined with a fine for interacting with a fan, in the opinion of the staff he should not be punished by the league for these actions. The fan should face discipline for running onto the court, if anything, Westbrook just reacted because a stranger was screaming in his grill. He defended himself, gave the fan a light shove so the fan could not approach him closer, and walked away. A young Ron Artest would have hit this fan with a haymaker.
UPDATE: Good for the NBA, Russell Westbrook will not be punished for his actions and the fan has been banned for life from attending NBA games, the NBA got this one right.
