APNews Russian police had an unexpected encounter while searching a house in St. Petersburg — a crocodile in the basement. The Fontanka.ru news portal said the incident happened Thursday while detectives were looking for undeclared weapons in the house of a man involved in staging reconstructions of historic military battles with period uniforms and antique weaponry. When they went down, they saw a crocodile resting in a small pool of water dug in concrete basement. The owner of the house explained that he got the crocodile years ago. City prosecutors said Friday they were checking whether the man was complying with local laws.
Russian police were conducting a raid on a home while looking for undeclared weapons in Moscow, when they were surprised to find a pool crudely dug into the basement concrete, and then shocked to find that the pool was inhabited by a crocodile. The crocodile looks decent sized, and seems healthy, despite the fact that it’s head and face is be covered in concrete. If I had a crocodile in my basement, I would probably never sleep, no matter how secure the basement door is I would be terrified that my pet prehistoric predator was going to crawl up the stairs in the middle of the night looking for a snack. I would never feel entirely safe. If you were a serial killer though, is there any better way to dispose of your victims then keeping a crocodile in your basement? Having a crocodile in your basement is like having your own personal flesh garbage disposal, this whole scenario seems odd, and I feel like if investigators examine the bottom of that pool they are going to find human bone fragments.
