NYDailyNews Pro wrestler Davey Boy Smith Jr. reportedly saved a woman from committing suicide by jumping off a bridge. Smith, whose real name is Harry Smith, posted the story of his rescue on his Facebook page and credits his grappling experience for helping the woman. The wrestler said he was driving Sunday night when he spotted a woman crying and hanging off a bridge in Calgary. Smith said he stopped and tried to speak to the woman, but she kept threatening to leap if he got any closer to her. “I decided to grab a hold of her and not take any chances,” Smith Jr. said in the post. “She started to slide and want to go more as I grabbed a hold her.” Smith said he was able to pull the woman up and get on top of her to stop her from jumping. “Luckily [from] my years of grappling and self-defense I knew how to grab her hard and how to pull her up from hanging off and jumping,” Smith said. The wrestler said the woman also had a gun on her, but he was able to keep her from using it. “I told her ‘Miss [you’re] not going to move unless I want you to, I’m an expert grappler and [you’re] not going to shoot me. We will get you help, life is a precious thing and I’m here to help you,” Smith wrote. Smith wrote that he held the woman down until police arrived to the scene. He believes if he wasn’t there to grapple her down, she likely would’ve jumped. In an interview with Global News, Smith said the whole experience was scary and it was an emotional day for him. “As many of the championships I’ve won in professional wrestling, saving somebody’s life means…so much more to me,” Smith said. Calgary police confirmed Smith’s story to Global News. Police took the woman to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Former WWE superstar Harry Smith, the son of the late great “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith, is being hailed as a hero today after stopping a woman from committing suicide. Smith was driving through his native Calgary when he spotted a woman crying and dangling off of a bridge, and despite the woman threatening to let go and plunge to her death if Smith got any closer, Smith grabbed the woman and wrestled her back to safety, then held her down until authorities arrived. The 32-year-old Smith is currently wrestling in Japan under the name Davey Boy Smith Jr, he is big in Japan and a huge international star, he is currently one half of the New Japan Pro Wrestling tag team champions with partner Lance Archer. Harry Smith is a hero, and a feel good story like this could pave his way back to the WWE, where he last wrestled in 2011.
