ESPN Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson will have surgery on his left wrist and will miss two to three months, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Tuesday. The Cardinals are placing Johnson, who suffered the injury in Sunday’s 35-23 loss to the Detroit Lions, on injured reserve with a chance to return this season, a source told Schefter. Johnson sought a second opinion after an early prognosis of a dislocated wrist. Rookie running back T.J. Logan will miss eight to 12 weeks with the same injury. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians on Monday said he has “all the confidence” in the running backs on the roster.
This is a tough break for the Arizona Cardinals, and for the guy who had the first overall pick in your fantasy football draft, because star running back David Johnson needs surgery to repair a dislocated wrist and he will miss 2-3 months of the season. The Cardinals are expected to lean heavily on Kerwynn Williams and Andre Ellington with Johnson sidelined, and there has been some buzz around big back Elijhaa Penny, while the team said bringing back veteran Chris Johnson is a possibility. As one of the unlucky owners of David Johnson, the player I would look to pick up on the waiver wire is Kerwynn Williams, however I am going after the Bears Tarik Cohen and the Ravens Buck Allen first to plug the hole at running back left by Johnson’s injury.
