ESPN The Chicago Bears suspect wide receiver Cameron Meredith injured his left ACL during the first quarter of Sunday’s preseason game at Tennessee, according to coach John Fox. Meredith was carted off the field after being tackled low by safety Johnathan Cyprien at the end of a 16-yard reception. Meredith’s left leg twisted upon contact as he braced for the hit. He was writhing in pain for a few minutes before being helped onto a cart with an air cast supporting his left leg.
This is a tough injury for the Chicago Bears, who had high expectations for Cameron Meredith this season, and were set to make him their number one option in the passing game. Meredith was impressive as last season, and now that Alshon Jeffery has left Chicago as a free agent, Meredith’s touches were expected to greatly increase in 2017. Meredith was expected to assist in the development of rookie quarterback Mitch Tribusky, whenever he gets the starting nod, and now the Bears will have to lean heavily on very talented but often injured former first round pick Kevin White who could be considered a bust after his first two seasons. This is another reason why you should not draft your fantasy football leagues into at least after week three of the preseason, there was considerable fantasy buzz around Cameron Meredith this season, if he is on your roster I would advise you to quickly drop Meredith and pick up Kevin White.
