ESPN Free-agent point guard Derrick Rose has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to ESPN and multiple reports. It is a veteran minimum salary of $2.1 million, sources said. The defending Eastern Conference champions met with Rose and his agent, B.J. Armstrong, on Monday. The 2011 MVP is expected to sign his contract as early as Tuesday.
As a New York Knicks fan, I was terrified that Derrick Rose was going to end up back on the roster, and if Phil Jackson was still around Derrick Rose would be back. However, Phil Johnson is gone, and so is Derrick Rose after signing a one year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Derrick Rose is great at getting to the rim, and is a great finisher at the rim, but he does not pass the ball and does not make his teammates better. There were many times last season when the Knicks were down by one and Derrick Rose had the ball, but instead of getting the ball to scorers Carmelo Anthony or Kristaps Porzingis, Rose tried to play hero ball and take the shot himself. And missed. Be prepared for a very angry LeBron James at the end of games, after Derrick Rose bricks the last shot, instead of getting the ball to the best player alive. Derrick Rose was the 2011 NBA MVP, but injuries have taken a major toll on his ability, the problem is he thinks he is still that player. He is not.
Note: Now every NBA MVP from 2009 through 2016 is on either the Golden State Warriors or the Cleveland Cavaliers.
