NYDailyNews David Price doesn’t like Dennis Eckersley and the Red Sox ace let the Hall of Fame pitcher know about it. Details emerged of the “verbal confrontation” the two had on a Red Sox team charter plane on June 29. According to the Boston Globe, Price took exception to learning Eckersley, part of NESN’s broadcast team, muttered “yuck” when reliever Eduardo Rodriguez’s stats were shown on the television. When Eckersley boarded the team plane for a flight to Toronto on June 29, Price stood in front of Eckersley as he made his way to the back of the plane and shouted, “Here he is — the greatest pitcher who ever lived! This game is easy for him!” When Eckersley tried to get a word in Price told him to “get the (expletive) out of here!” Later in the flight, Eckersley walked up to the front to sit with GM Dave Dombrowski when Price again shouted “get the (expletive) out of here.” When Price was asked about the confrontation the following day, he said “some people just don’t understand how hard this game is.” After his next start, Price added: “I stand up for my teammates. Whatever crap I catch for that, I’m fine with it.” The Red Sox said they handled the problem internally, but The Globe reports that neither Price nor manager John Farrell has apologized to Eckersley for the incident.
In late June, we heard about an issue on the Red Sox team plane, which happened between Red Sox pitcher David Price and broadcaster and Hall of Fame closer Dennis Eckersley. Now the details of the feud have finally emerged, a month later, which can put all the rumors and innuendo about this feud to rest. It all started when a graphic was put on the screen during a NESN broadcast which showed Red Sox reliever Eduardo Rodriguez’s stats, and Dennis Eckersley, who was calling the game said “Yuck.” David Price was very upset by Eckersley’s comments, and when Eckersley boarded the team plane, Price decided it was a good time to defend his teammate. Price noticed Eckersley and yelled “Here he is — the greatest pitcher who ever lived! This game is easy for him!” and repeatedly told Eck to “Get the fuck out of here” because Eck criticized Rodriguez during a broadcast. I’ve got some news for David Price, Eck may not be the greatest pitcher of all-time, but the game did come pretty easy to him. Eck is a first ballot Hall Of Fame pitcher, I think he knows a thing or two about pitching, so he is able to comment on atrocious statistics. Show a legend some respect.
