Cleveland Cavaliers superstar point guard Kyrie Irving has requested to be traded, speculation is that he believes that LeBron James will leave next summer, and that Kyrie will be stuck on a rebuilding Cavs team for the foreseeable future. Also, it’s believed that Kyrie is tired of playing in the shadow of LeBron, he is ready to spread his wings and have his own team. There are rumors that before the 2017 NBA Draft, Kyrie Irving told the Cavs to trade him to the Chicago Bulls, where he could team up with Jimmy Butler. However, that ship has sailed, Jimmy Butler was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Bulls are in full rebuilding mode. Instead, Kyrie Irving told the Cavs to trade him to one of four teams, the Spurs, Heat, Timberwolves, or Knicks. Of course, Kyrie Irving does not have a no trade clause, so the Cavs can trade him wherever they want and if they elect to do so they will hold an auction and accept the best offer.
As a New York Knicks fan, the team should do whatever it takes to land Kyrie Irving, short of trading Kristaps Porzingis. The Knicks could send Carmelo Anthony to Cleveland in a deal for Irving, Carmelo wants out of New York, and Carmelo has wanted to play with his longtime friend LeBron James. If the Knicks could get a third team involved, rumored to be the Phoenix Suns (who would likely receive Knicks 2017 first round pick Frank Ntilikina and future first round picks), this deal might actually work, and the Knicks would have a solid young core of Kyrie Irving, Tim Hardaway Jr, Kristaps Porzingis and Willy Hernangomez to build around.
Get it done Knicks.
