RealGM The Boston Celtics have agreed to send Avery Bradley to the Detroit Pistons for Marcus Morris. Bradley is entering the final season of his contract and Boston needed to clear cap space to sign Gordon Hayward.
The Boston Celtics had to trade one of their core players to make room for free agent signee Gordon Hayward, and Avery Bradley seemed like the most likely player to be traded, because he is due a huge contract next summer. Today, the Celtics shipped Avery Bradley to the Detroit Pistons, and they received Marcus Morris in return. Avery Bradley will be a very valuable piece in Detroit, especially if the Pistons can sign him to a long term deal, Bradley is a huge upgrade over incumbent Pistons starting shooting guard and current free agent Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
The Celtics get back a solid player in return for Avery Bradley in Marcus Morris, who averaged 14 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Pistons last season, but was redundant on the Detroit roster as he is a very similar player to Tobias Harris which made him expendable. The 27-year old forward has two years remaining on his contract, he will make $5,000,000 in 2017-2018 and $5,375,000 in 2018-2019.
Boston needed help in the front court, and Marcus Morris represents an upgrade in a role filled by and Kelly Olynyk and Jonas Jerebko last season.
