NYDailyNews An American tourist attempting to relieve himself in a Cancun lagoon had part of his arm bitten off by a crocodile, according to reports. The man was in the resort city’s hotel district when he went to urinate in the Nichupté Lagoon around 6 a.m. one morning last week, but found himself in a struggle for his life with a reptile that tried to pull him into the water, Mexico’s 24 Horas reported Sunday. He is an American who remains in unknown condition at a Mexican hospital, according to the outlet. The attack is not the first time that tourists have become targets for Cancun’s local wildlife. A visitor from the central Mexico’s Tlaxcala was dragged into the water and drowned by a crocodile in 2015.
When you think of Cancun, you think of beach bars like Senior Frogs, getting hammered on margaritas on spring break, and of course peeing into the nearest body of water. This American tourist had the same idea, but when he had his guard down pissing into a lagoon, he was attacked by a crocodile and lost his arm. When you are a tourist in a foreign country you always have to be aware of the local dangers, including the wildlife, there are crocodiles in the waterways in Cancun and a croc killed a tourist in Cancun in 2015. While not as large or aggressive as Nile or saltwater crocodiles, American crocodiles are still very dangerous, and if an unsuspecting human enters the water that an American crocodile calls home the person is in serious danger. There is probably not much more horrifying than going from the relief of peeing into a body of water after a few beers, to the terror of a crocodile grabbing you by the arm, then watching the croc go into a death roll which rips your arm clean off. Careful where you piss.
