ESPN The Denver Nuggets have agreed to a three-year, $90 million contract with star forward Paul Millsap, sources told ESPN. The third year of the deal is a team option, sources said, which limits the Nuggets’ liability for the 32-year-old, who has made the All-Star team in each of the past four seasons. The signing was first reported by The Vertical.
I absolutely love this signing for the Denver Nuggets, not only is Paul Millsap the perfect veteran piece to complement the Nuggets young core, but I love the construction of the deal for the Nuggets. Paul Millsap is the type of player that can do the dirty work for the Denver Nuggets, he is a gritty defender and a tough rebounder, who has a solid mid range game all of which fits perfectly next to budding superstar center Nikola Jokic. However, despite Millsap’s perfect fit in Denver, he is 32-years-old and on the downslope of his career. The third year of this contract is a team option, so if Father Time catches up to Paul Millsap after two years, the Denver Nuggets can simply not pick up the option and walk away. This is a nice deal for the Nuggets, both short term and long term, well done by Denver’s front office.
