Mayweather posted a promotional video for the fight on Instagram along with the caption: “IT’S OFFICIAL!!!” McGregor tweeted “THE FIGHT IS ON.” McGregor, the U.F.C. lightweight champion, agreed to the fight last month, but negotiations over Mayweather’s terms had been considered to be more difficult. Earlier Tuesday the Nevada State Athletic Commission approved a request by Mayweather Promotions to hold a boxing event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Aug. 26. The request was for an event to be shown on Showtime, which has an exclusive agreement with Mayweather. The fight will be a straight-up boxing match. Mayweather, who won multiple belts and is undefeated as a boxer at 49-0, has not fought since September 2015 against Andre Berto. After winning that fight in a unanimous decision, Mayweather announced his retirement, for the second time. McGregor, the most popular and charismatic star on U.F.C.’s roster, holds a lifetime record of 21-3, with his last fight a victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016. Most observers expect the fight — which will be a traditional boxing match — to be fairly uncompetitive, and for Mayweather to win handily. Mayweather is currently an -1100 favorite at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, meaning bettors would have to risk $1100 on Mayweather to win just $100.
A spectacle will take place on August 26th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, when the most anticipated boxing match in decades takes place, and unbeaten Floyd Mayweather will put his legacy on the line against UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor. Mayweather enters the fight as an extremely heavy favorite, he is the slickest boxer we have ever seen, incredible boxers like Canelo Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao were unable to touch Mayweather. McGregor is twelve years younger, he will be the Much bigger man in the ring, and he has pinpoint accuracy and uncanny power in his hands. I think the fight will be more of a sparring match, with Mayweather dancing around McGregor, and McGregor swinging and missing at Mayweather. I think Mayweather coasts to a decision victory, and afterwards the competitors hug it out, and talk about how much respect they have for one another on the way to the bank. However, McGregor cannot be taken lightly, if he connects with just one shot on Mayweather it will be over. I’m picking Mayweather, but McGregor has shocked the world many times before, I’m rooting for and betting on Conor hoping that he can catch Mayweather and earn an incredible upset victory.
