TheOaklandPress An intruder walked through unlocked gates to enter the Detroit Lions practice facility outdoor field during minicamp on Tuesday. He didn’t get far before he was stopped by team security and escorted off the property. Fox 2’s Sky Kerstein was one of the first to see and hear the man as he approached the gate. Kerstein alerted the Lions media relations staff. Kerstein said he heard the man repeat the word “Allah” before entering the gate. After he entered, the man was babbling about playing linebacker and at one point yelled, “Yo, 59.” (Tahir Whitehead wears No. 59.) Practice was not interrupted and the players were not in danger. Some of them saw a disturbance but didn’t know what it was about. “I caught the end of it, I heard my coach give a couple pointers on how to get him out,” offensive tackle Joe Dahl said. Dahl said the players were not worried. “We know we’ve got great security around here. They did their job,” Dahl said. Allen Park police were called but did not comment. The Lions only said he had been removed from the premises.
I guess it was worth a shot, a fan who is described only as a “disturbed intruder” made his way onto the field at Detroit Lions practice and demanded a tryout. The man was rambling that he is a linebacker, and he tried repeatedly to get the attention of linebacker Tahir Whitehead, before he was finally removed from the premises. I guess that this fan thought that if he made it into the field, and talked his way into the linebacker drills rotation, there was a chance that the Lions coaching staff would say “you know what? He’s crazy, but he can play, sign him up.” Unfortunately, for the crazed fan, the scenario that he had played out in his head did not happen in real life and he was escorted out by security.
