In a result that shocked many professional wrestling fans, former jobber Jinder Mahal defeated WWE superstar Randy Orton at Backlash, and became the new WWE Champion. If you have not heard the full Jinder Mahal story, listen to him on Chris Jericho’s Talk Is Jericho podcast which was uploaded on May 17th, his rise is incredible. In 2014, Jinder Mahal looked to be nothing more than a career jobber, he had been released from the WWE and was working on the independent circuit. He was out of shape, drinking every night, and eating poorly. Mahal stopped drinking, started dieting, and found a positive outlook on life. The next thing he knew, Jinder Mahal was in the best shape of his life, and he was back in the WWE getting a push. For those who do not know, the WWE is expanding into India, where professional wrestling is huge. Former WWE superstar, the gigantic Great Khali, is probably the most famous person in India and sells out arenas whenever he appears. Jinder Mahal is a native Canadian with Indian blood, he is close friends with The Great Khali, and booked Khali all over India wrestling him over 100 times around the country which also made Mahal a star in India. So Jinder Mahal is an inspirational story, he worked his ass off and impressed the WWE with his improvement, but he was also in the right place at the right time with the India expansion happening. Now Jinder Mahal is WWE Champion, a national sensation in India, who is making news worldwide. Congratulations to Jinder Mahal, I hope you have a long and successful run as a heel champion, who will become a national superstar in India. This is an example of hard work, and positivity, paying off big time.
NOTE: The WWE needs to start cranking out Jinder Mahal merch right away, and selling it in India, it will fly off the shelves.
