SI Former WWE wrestler Matt Anoa’i, known in the ring as Rosey, has died, WWE announced Tuesday. He was 47. Rosey was part of a long line of professional wrestlers. His father, Sika, is a WWE Hall of Famer, and his brother, Joe, is current WWE superstar Roman Reigns. “We want to let his fans know that he loved them and the wrestling world so much,” the family said in a statement. “In his passing, he left three beautiful young children and a heartbroken family. Please respect the privacy of his children and family as they mourn the loss of this kind, loving, gentle man, who was a father, son, brother and a superhero to us all.” Rosey’s run with WWE was fairly brief, from 2002 to 2006, followed by a short stint in Japan. Billed at 6’4”, 400 pounds, he participated in a weight loss television program in 2007. He was also hospitalized in 2014 with heart trouble.
Sad news in the world of professional wrestling today, as former WWE superstar Matt Anoa’i who is better known to fans as Rosey has passed away at age 47, Matt Anoa’i was the older brother of current WWE superstar Roman Reigns (Joe Anoa’i). Rosey was known as being half of the tag team 3-Minute Warning, his partner was partner Jamal (Eki Fatu), better known to WWE fans as Umaga. Unfortunately, the entire tag team is now gone, Umaga passed away in 2009. Rosey achived his greatest success when teamed with “The Hurricane” Shane Helms, the duo was managed by Stacy Kiebler, and won the WWE Tag Team Championships one time. Unfortunately, Matt Anoa’i had developed serious heart problems over recent years, which are believed to have caused his death. I guess we know why Roman Reigns was vivaciously attacked by Braun Strowman and written off of Monday Night Raw. Rest In Peace Matt Anoa’i, our thoughts are with his family at this time, thank you for the memories.
