Portland Trail Blazers forward Moe Harkless was due a $500,000 bonus if he finished the 2016-2017 NBA regular season with a three point percentage of over 35%, which probably seemed low risk at the time, considering Harkless shot 28% and 18% from downtown over the last two seasons, respectively. However, entering last night’s season finale against the New Orleans Pelicans, Harkless was sitting at 35.1% from three this season and a missed three pointer would have cost him $500,000. So what did Harkless do? He did not attempt a three pointer, finishing the season at 35.1% from downtown and with an extra $500,000 in his pocket, then posted on Instagram that dinner was on him tonight. Congratulations to Moe Harkless on cashing in with this savvy veteran move.
UPDATE: Harkless did not attempt a three over the final four regular season games, so obviously, this was a long term plan.
