MMAFighting.com The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) pulled Pearl Gonzalez from UFC 210 on Friday morning because she has breast implants, sources told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani. The commission does not allow fighters to compete with implants, per their rules. Gonzalez was supposed to face Cynthia Calvillo on the UFC 210 main card Saturday night at KeyBank Arena. Gonzalez, 30, cut weight and made the strawweight limit Friday morning without incident, assuming the fight was on. The NYSAC broke the news to her after weigh-ins were over. Gonzalez seemingly passed all her medicals prior to coming to Buffalo and appeared to be in line to fight until Friday morning. Breast implants are something the commission could have addressed with Gonzalez before one day prior to the fight. Female UFC fighters with breast implants have competed in New York before this. Gonzalez (6-1) was going to make her UFC debut in the bout. Calvillo (4-0) is coming off a first-round submission win over Amanda Cooper at UFC 209 last month.
UPDATE: The fight has been saved. Pearl Gonzalez vs. Cynthia Calvillo is back on the UFC 210 card Saturday in Buffalo, the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) confirmed via a statement. “The Commission did not make a determination to remove Ms. Gonzalez from the card, however the Commission did conduct a review based on information presented at the weigh-in earlier today,” the statement read. “The Commission has completed its review and has cleared Ms. Gonzalez to participate in UFC 210.” The NYSAC provided John Pollock of the Fight Network a different statement about the matter. UFC president Dana White announced the fight being good to go Friday afternoon on Twitter. The fight had been ruled off Friday morning due to Pearl Gonzalez having breast implants, multiple sources told MMA Fighting. The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) does not allow implants, per their rule. Gonzalez provided the NYSAC medical documentation after being told the fight was canceled, her team told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani. The commission apparently cleared her thereafter. Newsday’s Mark La Monica was the first to report the development. Both Gonzalez and Calvillo made weight for the strawweight clash Friday morning and were present for the ceremonial weigh-ins Friday afternoon. This will be Gonzalez’s UFC debut.
