Bill Goldberg defeated Kevin Owens last night at WWE’s Fastlane pay-per-view, after he quickly hit a distracted Kevin Owens with his spear and jackhammer combination, making the 50-year-old Goldberg WWE Universal Champion. The music of Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens’ former best friend hit, and distracted Owens long enough for Goldberg to earn a quick victory. At Wrestlemania, Bill Goldberg will defend the WWE Universal Title against his biggest rival, Brock Lesnar.
The question everyone is asking is why? Why put the title on a 50-year-old part timer leading up to the biggest wrestling event of the year? Lesnar versus Goldberg would have been a draw anyway, without the title, why not keep the title on a wrestler who works for the company on a regular basis to make another match more important. We know that Lesnar versus Goldberg will not be much of a match, Lesnar can work, but Goldberg has not proven he can do anything other ran a spear and a jackhammer since his return to the ring. He did not do much else in his prime, and now he is 50-years-old, so do not expect much out of the Wrestlemania main event.
Other thoughts about Fastlane:
- Roman Reigns wins clean over Braun Strowman, which I cannot understand, did you really need to kill your monster and make him look weak at a minor pay-per-view like Fastlane?
- Kevin Owens versus Chris Jericho will be a lot of fun over the next few weeks. Two of the best all around wrestlers, on the mic and in the ring, should be a classic feud.
- What did Rusev do to piss off the booking committee? He went from an unbeatable monster heel to getting squashed incredibly fast. I guess Braun Strowman took over the monster role, and the WWE decided to bury Rusev?
