The Oklahoma City Thunder knew they needed to get Russell Westbrook help at the trade deadline, and they did by acquiring Doug McDermott and Taj Gibson from the Chicago Bulls, in exchange for Cameron Payne, Joffrey Lauvergne, Anthony Morrow and a second round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
I am a fan of Cameron Payne, I think he’s going to be a good player in the NBA, but he has not had a chance to show what he can do due to injuries. The Bulls needed to get something in return from the Thunder, and Payne is the centerpiece of this deal, the Bulls think highly of Payne and think he can be a nice player down the road.
The Thunder needed to get Russell Westbrook help, and while I hate to see them give up a young player with a ton of potential lik Cameron Payne, Payne was not going to be a good fit alongside Westbrook so moving him makes sense. The Thunder get better now, Doug McDermott immediately becomes their best shooter, and the addition of Taj Gibson coupled with starting center Steven Adams gives the Thunder one of the toughest front courts in the league.
With Cameron Payne traded to the Bulls, Russell Westbrook is going to have to find a new pregame dance partner.
