Yahoo The world champion Cleveland Cavaliers have reached an agreement on a deal to acquire guard Kyle Korver from the Atlanta Hawks, league sources told The Vertical. The Cavaliers and Hawks are still finalizing the terms of the trade, with a 2019 first-round pick and Mike Dunleavy Jr. going to Atlanta, league sources said The Hawks have been searching for a third team to acquire Dunleavy Jr., but he could park in Atlanta for now, league sources told The Vertical. Atlanta (19-16) is engaged in discussions with several teams on forward Paul Milsap, and the organization is motivated to move him sooner rather than later, sources said. Toronto, Denver, Sacramento and Philadelphia have expressed an interest in Milsap, who can become a free agent in July.
When shooting guard J.R. Smith suffered a wrist injury requiring surgery and it was announced he was out indefinitely, possibly for the entire season, the Cavs made upgrading shooting guard a priority. They did so tonight, when they acquired sweet shooting swingman Kyle Korver from the Atlanta Hawks, in exchange for their 2019 first round pick. Kyle Korver is one of the most consistent shooters in the game when he gets open looks, and inserted alongside Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and LeBron James Korver should get plenty of open looks. This trade, and adding another knockdown shooter for floor spacing purposes, makes the defending champion Cleveland Cavs even scarier.
P.S. It looks like the Atlanta Hawks will be sellers, they know they cannot win as presently constructed, so they are dumping all of their tradable veterans and Paul Milsap is expected to be next. Many teams have expressed interest in the All Star power forward including the Raptors, Pelicans, Celtics, 76ers and Nuggets. The best fit for Milsap is the Raptors, who are a great team with a glaring hole at power forward, but lack the assets to make a deal. Nobody has more assets than the Celtics, with Nets picks and young players, they can beat any other team’s best offer. However, the 76ers and Nuggets have interesting young players, who could tempt the Hawks.
