The curse has died at 108 years old, as the Chicago Cubs rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win the 2016 World Series, famously their first World Series win since 1908. Congratulations to Chicago Cubs fans who have waited their whole lives for this moment, the Cubs finally did it, you are Champions. The staff of SportSmasher.com will be in New York City as always tomorrow, but we will all be wishing that we were in Wrigleyville, because the celebrations and partying will be absolutely insane.
It was terrifying. The Cubs had a 6-3 lead with two outs in the eight inning with their lights out (but overused) closer Aroldis Chapman on the mound. Infield single. RBI double. Two run homer. Tied game. Then extra innings. Then a rain delay. Finally in the tenth inning World Series MVP Ben Zobrist delivered an RBI double and the Cubs were World Series Champions after winning possibly the most thrilling game in the stories history of Major League Baseball.
If you are a Cleveland Indians fan, you can’t feel too badly about this, you still have the defending NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers led by LeBron James as well as UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic. The Indians won the AL Pennant in dominant fashion, had a 3-1 lead in the World Series and rallied to tie the game before blowing it, but it has still be an incredible year for Cleveland sports.
