NYDailyNews Former Knick and current Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert was arrested last month for suspicion of DUI, the Cavs announced in a release Friday morning. TMZ reported Shumpert was arrested for suspected marijuana use. “Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert was arrested by Fayette County (GA) Police outside Atlanta for suspicion of DUI following an August 10 traffic stop for a lane violation,” the release said. “The Cavaliers have discussed the situation with Iman and will monitor the progression of the pending case. “A court date has not been set at this point, and neither Iman or the team will have any additional comments while the matter progresses through the legal process.” According to TMZ, Shumpert admitted to smoking marijuana and police found a jar containing marijuana in his car. He reportedly refused to subject to a blood test out of fear of being recognized.
When I first saw that Iman Shumpert was arrested for DUI, I thought “what an asshole, he put the lives of everyone on the road at risk”, but then I saw he was not driving under the influence of alcohol. He was driving under the influence of marijuana, and as anyone who has tried both of these substances knows, there is a huge difference. An unnamed comedian summed it up best (I have been looking on the Internet fit the origin of the joke, but cannot find it), “What’s the difference between a drunk driver and a stoned driver? A drunk driver blows through a red light and a stoned driver stops at a green light.” Driving while impaired is not good, but in my book, driving drunk is much more unsafe and is a much worse decision that deserves much stricter penalties than driving while smoking a little weed.
P.S. While this arrest makes it a rough summer for NBA Champion Iman Shumpert, nobody is having a better summer than his girlfriend Teyana Taylor, and her absolutely ridiculous body.
