SportsIllustrated Oklahoma City Thunder forward Serge Ibaka has been traded to the Orlando Magic for Victor Oladipo, Ersan Ilyasova and No. 11 pick Domantas Sabonis.
I love this trade for the Oklahoma City Thunder, lack of depth really caught up to them during their seven game series with the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference semifinals, and trading one player to get three talented players in return makes a lot of sense. The big addition for the Thunder here is Victor Oladipo, an extremely athletic shooting guard who gives the Thunder a much needed defender, but they also add a stretch four who is a strong rebounder in Ersan Ilyasova and a tough rookie who is ready to contribute now in Domantas Sabonis. The Thunder will miss Serge Ibaka’s shot blocking ability, and Victor Oladipo is not a knock down shooter when Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are double teamed, but this trade makes the Thunder better.
This trade makes some sense for the Orlando Magic, they needed a rim protector next to center Nicola Vucevic, and Serge Ibaka can also help them on the offensive end, and he is still just 26-years-old so he still has plenty of prime ahead of him. Victor Oladipo never developed into the star that the Orlando Magic thought he would when they selected him with the second overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, and trading him opens more minutes for 2015 first round pick Mario Hezonja, who has star potential offensively.
