The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to trade point guard Jeff Teague to the Indiana Pacers in a three team trade which also includes the Utah Jazz. The final details of the deal are still being finalized right now, but Teague will go to the Pacers, veteran point guard George Hill will go to the Jazz, and the twelfth overall pick in tomorrow night’s 2016 NBA Draft will go to the Atlanta Hawks.
The Pacers view Jeff Teague as an upgrade over George Hill, and that is why they made this deal, Teague is entering the final year of his contract but is already working on an extension with the Pacers.
The Jazz made this deal because they did not need a rookie on a loaded roster, they get back Dante Exum next season, and think that they can compete in the west when fully healthy. Adding a tough veteran point guard in George Hill who can help the team win right away instead of another rookie who will struggle to find minutes and needs development makes a lot of sense.
As for the Atlanta Hawks, they are handing over the reigns to young point guard Dennis Schroder, and as they expect to lose Al Horford in free agency this summer it’s time for the team to rebuild. The Hawks now own the 12th and 21st picks in tomorrow night’s 2016 NBA Draft to start rebuilding.
