ESPN The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired forward Channing Frye from the Orlando Magic in a three-team trade that sends Anderson Varejao to the Portland Trail Blazers, sources tell ESPN’s Marc Stein and Chris Broussard. The Cavaliers are also sending a conditional first-round pick to the Blazers and Jared Cunningham to Orlando, while Portland is sending a second-round pick to the Magic.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been aggressively pursuing Channing Frye over the past week, and they finally got their man, as they acquired the sharp shooting forward in a three team trade. I’m not sure why the Cavs thought Frye was the missing piece, in my opinion he plays the same position as both Kevin Love and Tristian Thompson, so unless the Cavs trade one of those players I am not sure how Frye impacts the game or even sees the floor. Another interesting wrinkle to this trade is talented but often injured big man Anderson Varejao will be released by the Portland Trail Blazers, he cannot sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but will be free to sign with any other team.
