The Mirror College lecturer Rob Price, 27, rushed to a betting shop after seeing the Holywood ace in his snack. A golf fanatic has put £10k on Rory McIlroy to win the Masters – after seeing the sports star’s face in a Danish pastry. College lecturer Rob Price was about to tuck into the tasty bun native to Caroline Wozniacki’s home country when he spotted McIlroy’s features on the top. So instead of taking a bite, the superstitious 27-year-old rushed onto his Betfair online account and put €1,200 on the Northern Irish golfer to win the competition. And if his Danish-inspired prediction proves to be a winner, Rob will be dining on pastries for years with a €14,400 payday. The UK golf fan from Andover in Hampshire revealed: “I couldn’t believe it when I picked up my Danish from the local bakery in Andover only to see what looked like Rory McIlroy’s face burnt into the top of it. “I was going to put some money on Rory to win The Masters this year anyway, but I’m pretty superstitious so when this happened instead of putting €120 down, I decided to go big and put €1,200 on through my Betfair account. “It’s got to be a sign – Rory’s face on a piece of food from his girlfriend’s home country. My mates have had a giggle and think I’m mad, but if I pocket €14,400, I’ll be the one laughing.” Rob couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw Rory’s face and mop of curly hair in his mid-week Danish – and immediately saw it as a sign to back the Holywood star all the way to Masters glory. He then tweeted a picture of the spooky bun and a screen grab of his betting slip showing his €1,200 punt on McIlroy at 11/1. And that’s how Betfair caught up with him. Betfair soon tweeted him to wish him luck and have since been in touch with their customer to find out just why he was so inspired by a Danish pastry. Betfair’s Barry Orr revealed: “I suppose this isn’t the first time Rory’s been on top of a Danish but it’s certainly the first time we’ve had a customer place a bet as a result of it. “It’s an odd way of choosing your bet, but it’s not the worst bet in the world. “With Tiger dropping out of the Masters and the rest of the Tour having had a pretty mixed season, Rory’s our joint favourite at 11/1 and he’s certainly in with a good chance.”
At first I thought this story was a load of bullshit, that the man in question was crazy, and that there is no way that Rory McIlroy’s face had appeared in a pastry. Then I saw the pastry, and I have to be honest, I’m a little freaked out. The face in the pastry looks exactly like Rory McIlroy, to the point where it is creepy, there is no doubt that it’s 100% him. Was some crazy pastry baker making a joke? Was he super excited about The Masters and a huge golf fan, so he decided to put his favorite golfer’s face on a pastry to celebrate the upcoming tournament. There is no way this is a coincidence, and I’m creeped out, I’m going to place a bet on McIlroy right now. This can’t be real, can it?
