I am tired of blogging about J.R. Smith this week, but every time I think that I’m finally done, he does something stupid and pulls me back in. I’m just going timeline style for this blog:
Sunday – While Dirk Nowitzki shoots free throws in Dallas, J.R. Smith unties Shawn Marion’s shoe. LINK
Monday – The league warns Smith not to untie an opponents shoe again.
Tuesday – In the next game against the Pistons J.R. Smith tries (and fails) to untie Greg Monroe’s shoe while Josh Smith shoots free throws. LINK
Wednesday: The NBA fines J.R. Smith $50,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct as rumors swirl that the Knicks are fed up and exploring trade options for the guard. LINK
Thursday: The Knicks bench J.R. Smith, and get their biggest win of the season, beating the defending champion Miami Heat.
Friday: a story emerges that J.R. Smith once ordered $3,000 worth of room service at a hotel “to see if it would keep coming” and left the trays of food in the room uneaten, wasting owner James Dolan’s money. LINK We then learn that, after the win over the Heat where he was benched, Smith went to the club where he posed for this photo, pretending to untie a fan’s shoelaces:
(Somehow, after being fined and benched, Smith thought this was a good idea. This is the kind of professional athlete and person that the Knicks are dealing with, one that does not understand that posing for this photo makes him look bad. After being fined and benched for untying shoes, he takes a picture at a club pretending to untie a shoe.)
