On Sunday night in the New York Knicks win over the Dallas Mavericks, Knicks guard J.R. Smith untied Mavericks forward Shawn Marion’s shoe while Dirk Nowitski was shooting free throws. Ar first this silly move by Smith seemed playful, but concerns quickly arose over if Smith was attempting to injure Marion, who would be more likely to injure his ankle with a loosened shoe. Personally, I think that Smith figured that Marion would be forced to stop to untie his shoe, which would give the Knicks the numbers going down the court. The league discussed fining Smith for untying Marion’s shoe, it did not, so this was the end of the story right?
The very next game, against the Detroit Pistons tonight, J.R. Smith tried (and failed) to untie Piston’s forward Greg Monroe’s shoelace while his teammate Josh Smith shot free throws.
So this is your new thing J.R. Smith? You are just taunting the league now, and asking to disciplined if you keep this up, and you look like a clown for trying this move again. Make a few shots and stop worrying about gaining a competitive advantage over your opponents with these shady tactics.
