New York Knicks shooting guard J.R. Smith decided to mess with Mavericks forward Shawn Marion at the free thrown line by untying his shoe during a Knicks win. It’s been a rough season for J.R. Smith on the court, as he is scoring just 11.5 points per game and shooting just .348% from the field a year after winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award. He secured a long term contract from the Knicks this offseason, and as I said back then, you do not sign a player like J.R. Smith to a long term contract. He needs to play with a sense of urgency every night to be effective, and now that he is comfortable, he will continue to struggle. The untying of Shawn Marion’s show was probably all in good fun, Smith was tugging on his shorts previously, and the two seem to be friendly. As a Knicks fan, I’m much more worried about Smith’s lack of production and the team’s struggles, than I am about his on court antics.
