News out of the New York Jets has Geno Smith being named the starter for the team’s 3rd Preseason game against the New York Giants. The game is Saturday afternoon and the always coveted Snoopy Trophy is on the line.
This has Idzik written all over it and not Rex. Sanchez has been Sanchez this preseason. Looking sharp at times and throwing bonehead and game changing INTs at other times. I was worried that Geno’s ankle injury would have all but kept him out of the real competition here, but it looks like that won’t be the case. Geno will get a fair shot and we should know our opening day starter in about a week’s time.
The Giants defense will be a good test for the rookie QB. As a Jet fan, the only thing I wan to see out of this season is a good evaluation of Geno to know if we have a QB or not. If the answer is no, there will be a high draft pick next year to be used on a solid rookie QB class.
I think Geno needs to have a very nice showing to win the job. 65% completion %. No INTs/Fumbles. Throw for at least 1 TD but manufacture at least 2 on offense. Show understanding of the system and control over the team. And just act the part. Should make for an interesting Saturday afternoon.

“Right now I can’t really tell you if Geno will play in this game or not. We’ll see how the rest of the week goes to make that decision,” Ryan said on a conference call with reporters.
