ESPN’s Rich Cimini is reporting that Geno Smith’s injury is just a mild ankle sprain. This is expected based on reports of Smith after the game walking without a limp and his post game interview.

This will likely be the most interesting week of practice for the Jets offense and particularly Geno Smith. After he rolled his ankle Friday night in Detroit, Smith needs to make sure he is on the practice field this week and ready to roll Saturday against the Jaguars if he wants any shot at the starting gig. The decision by Smith and the trainers to not tape Smith’s ankle was atrocious and it could cost him a week 1 start.
If Smith practices well and this is truly still an open competition, he should be in line to get the start on Saturday at Met Life Stadium. Time will tell… Jet fans will be watching this closely as Mark Sanchez finished with a solid stat line but showed you exactly why Jet fans get so frustrated with him. The terrible pick 6 costs the team the game. I don’t care about the nice TD drive later. You can’t do that, and Mark does that constantly.
In other news, Chris Ivory should see the field this week finally. This is big news for the Jets’ running game, which left much to be desired in the first preseason action.
