I haven’t actually been able to attend camp this year, but have been following all the reports closely. Here are consolidated notes on what I am reading consistently:
- Geno looks the part is will likely win the QB job.
- Sanchez has looked like Sanchez. Which is not good for Sanchez.
- The defense is going to be legit. Outside of safety, there is no weak spot. This is the best DL Rex has had here.
- Speaking of DL, Mo Wilkerson is going to be lights out this year. The Jets need to lock him up long term.
- Winslow sat out the scrimmage last night, but showed up in shape. He has a shot at the TE gig.
- Rookie guard, Brian Winters, looks good. He left the scrimmage with a slight injury (doesn’t sound bad), but he could win a starting spot on the OL.
- Cromartie is emerging as a leader on this team. Not only is a freak on the field (read that he threw a ball 60+ yards in the air effortlessly at camp)… but he is the first one on the field in the morning and the last at the end of the day. He is coaching up all the young players…
- Speaking of Cro. He called out fans for boo’ing Sanchez yesterday. He’s right.
- Greg McElroy will beat out Simms for the #3 QB spot
- Joe McKnight is a joke. What a wasted talent. He showed up out of shape and doesn’t give it his all.
- Clyde Gates will make this team and see the field this year.
- Milliner has been quiet. Which is good for a CB. The less we hear his name, the better.
- Richardson looks the part already.
- Coples will be used all over this defense. If they can get 100% out of him on every play, he will have a monster season.
- Neither RB addition has seen time yet. Ivory is nursing a hamstring and Goodson is MIA. In the meantime, Powell has made his reps count.
- Speaking of Goodson, I think he is in rehab. The Jets have been quiet about his situation, which leads me to believe this is the only answer.
- No word about Holmes yet. I think there is a legit shot he misses the season at this point. I would not be shocked to see him start the season on the PUP.
- Hill sounds to have improved, but still has work to do. I really hope he can put it all together at some point.
- A very quiet offseason for the Jets. I like it. Idzik is making a real impact on culture already.
- Kyle Wilson is better than last year. He was solid last year. He could be one the league’s best #3 CBs.
- RB is a big concern. Powell is doing his job, but this position needs a playmaker to step up.
- I think Lex Hillard wins the FB job. But Bohanon has a real shot.
