I am shocked at this news, has an NBA Coach-Of-The-Year for an overachieving team that won 57 games ever been let go before? Because that’s what just happened. George Karl is surprisingly out in Denver. Earlier this week rumors were floating around that Karl was “unsettled” in Denver, and was pushing for a contract extension, as he only had one year remaining on his current deal. Denver management was not prepared to give him an extension and he was released this morning. I am shocked Denver would be dumb enough to let an incredible coach who led a roster without any superstar talent to 57 wins and the best home record in the league walk out the door.
I have already heard that Karl had jumped to the top of the list for the coaching vacancies with the Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn Nets. The Toronto Raptors just hired Denver Nuggets Executive-of-The-Year Masai Ujiri, and rumor is that the reigning Executive-of-the-Year and Coach-of-the-Year could reunite in Toronto.
