Huffington Post: ESPN is laying off a large number of employees on Tuesday, according to report from Deadspin. A source told the website that the amount of layoffs could be in the hundreds.
ESPN was quoted as saying “We are implementing changes across the company to enhance our continued growth while smartly managing costs. While difficult, we are confident that it will make us more competitive, innovative and productive.”
Reports have the number at 300-400. This includes open head count that is not currently filled. Reports also mention that ESPN is still in growth mode and hiring, but this is more of a change in direction move. Disney has been producing great profits, so this comes as a bit of a surprise.
