Media Takeout April 10, 2013: Now we’re not gonna JUMP TO ANY CONCLUSIONS HERE . . . but we got our hands on some vacation pics of NFL star Kerry Rhodes and one of his male friends:
MediaTakeOut posted these photos of Kerry Rhodes, a free agent safety formerly of the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals, frolicking on the beach with a male friend and claimed that he may be the NFL’s First gay player. At first I thought the pictures were probably just taken out of context, but then I looked up his Wikipedia page:
Wikipedia Off the field, Rhodes is a well known athlete, however his antics have often earned the ire of several of his teammates and coaches. He is known for taking advantage of the “New York” lifestyle. He was on the cover of Essence in August 2007 for his community and foundation work noted as a 2007 “Do Right Man.” He has been featured nationally on: The Martha Stewart Show, Late Nite with Jimmy Fallon, CNN Health with Sanjay Gupta, The Biggest Loser, TLC’s Cake Boss alongside New York Giants defenseman Justin Tuck, MTV (Cribs),VH1, BET, ESPN, NFL Network. Print/Online: GQ, People, Details, Fitness Magazine, Us Weekly, NY Mag, Ocean Drive, Essence, Giant, ESPN The Magazine, Indulge Magazine, King, Upscale Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Vibe, Motor Trend, Monarch Magazine among others. Kerry majored in Communications and minored in Theater Arts at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Rhodes maintains his own Twitter page as well as a channel on Locker Blogger where he interacts with fans. Videos: Kerry played the role of the Lead Police Officer in Lady Gaga’s #1 video “Paparazzi” as well as playing the lead male role in K. Michelle’s video for her debut single Fallin’. Endorsement deals have included Under Armour, Sonu Beverages and Karako suits.
The case against Rhodes being the NFL’s first gay player is starting to add up. Those pictures. Appearing in a Lady Gaga video. Minoring in Theatre Arts in college. Appearing on Martha Stewart. Embracing the New York lifestyle. All of those go in the gay column. Draw your own conclusions.
By the way, I am not homophobic or anti-gay marriage at all. Who cares about someone else’s personal life? It does not effect my life in any way, so I simply don’t care, and I don’t think 95% of NFL players would either. I love the guys that don’t want gays in the NFL because “they’ll be looking at my ass and junk in the locker room.” Um, dude you are a 315 pound guard from Nebraska with a beard, do you really think that’s what gays are into? Look at the guy frolicking on the beach with Kerry Rhodes and think again. If a guy is on your team, and he is trying to win the game just as hard as you are, who cares what he does in his personal life? What matters is winning football games on the field, not what is happening in people’s lives off the field.
UPDATE: Kerry Rhodes to TMZ: But Rhodes says he’s as straight as an arrow — telling TMZ, “Photos have been circulating of my former assistant and I that have caused some rumors regarding my sexuality, and I wanted to address the situation.” Rhodes then says flatly, “I am not gay.” Rhodes explains: “The shots were taken during a past vacation in a casual environment with my entire business team.” Rhodes says when it comes to being supportive of gay professional athletes coming out, he’s on Magic Johnson’s team: “I know a lot of people are recently talking about athletes struggling to come out to their fans right now, and I support them, as well as wish those individuals comfort.”
